Ankeny Students Rewarded for Healthy, Active Lifestyles at NFL-themed Reward Summit

Westwood Elementary Earns PBIS Honor Award
The Iowa Department of Education has honored Westwood Elementary with the Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) Honor Award. Project Lead the Way Students Design Automated Projects
Project Lead the Way (PLTW) engineering students at Ankeny Centennial High School are applying engineering, science, math, and technology (STEM) to solve complex, open-ended problems in real-world situations. Southview Knowledge Bowl Team 1st at State; 15th in the Nation
Congratulations to the Southview Middle School eighth grade knowledge bowl team who finished first at the Iowa State Knowledge Bowl competition held Wednesday, April 22 at Des Moines Area Community College in Ankeny. Click here to read more about the Iowa State Knowledge Bowl.
ACHS Student Wins Housing Design Challenge; AHS Students Runners-Up
Ankeny Centennial High School senior Nick Turner was awarded first place, and Ankeny High School's two-person team of sophomores Nate Johnson and Brandon Spear were runners-up in the 2015 "Can I Be Your Neighbor" Design Challenge for Affordable Housing on April 18 at the Pappajohn Center in downtown Des Moines. Rick Nelson to be named AHS head football coach -
Pending approval by the Ankeny Board of Education on May 4, Mr. Rick Nelson will be named as the new varsity head football coach for Ankeny High School (AHS). Nelson is currently the offensive line coach for the University of Northern Iowa (UNI) Panthers football team in Cedar Falls, Iowa. Ankeny Schools selected Nelson from a strong pool of nearly 20 outstanding candidates. Read more about the new AHS football coach here.
School surplus items auction now open; visit K-Bid to bid -
Ankeny Community Schools is now holding a district inventory surplus sale online, including portable classrooms, vehicles and weight equipment. The district utilizes K-Bid, an online auction service to sell surplus items. Our auctions are now OPEN and closes May 17, May 21 and May 27. AHS Robotics Team Wraps Up Successful Season
The Robotics Club from Ankeny High School had an extremely successful 2014-2015 season. The club competed in the the First Tech Challenge (FTC) state robotics competition in March in Iowa City, and placed 13th out of 22 teams. Read more and view pictures from the team's season
Board approves 2015-2016 school calendar as recommended by Calendar Committee -
At their April 20 meeting, the Ankeny Board of Education voted to approve the 2015-2016 school calendar, as recommended by the School Calendar Committee. Prior to the meeting, the Board had reviewed several options for the calendar, including the final recommendation submitted by the committee. New Iowa legislation set the earliest start date for Iowa schools during the week following the state fair. Read more and view the approved calendar here.
Before And After-School Summer Adventures Camp Registration Now Open!
A summer full of sizzling fun is planned for students who have completed
grades K-5 at the Before and After-School Program’s Summer Adventures Camp. There is something for everyone in this summer camp that’s jam-packed with hands-on enrichment fun! Select the camps you want, don’t pay for those you don't. Campers may register for only one or two weeks, or the entire summer. 2015-2016 Before and After-School Program Registration Now Open
Registration for the Ankeny Community School District 2015-2016 Before and After-School Program is now open for incoming kindergarten through fifth grade students. Registration may be completed online by clicking here
, or in person at the central Before and After-School Program Office, 211 SW Walnut Street, Ankeny.
Online registration requires payment of the $50.00 non-refundable registration fee by credit or debit card.

Ankeny Community Education is partnering with Camp Invention to host the second annual summer camp at Ashland Ridge Elementary! Some of the activities your child will experience include, building freestyle racing carts, creating a prototype video game with characters, and inventing machines. Did you go last year? Camp Invention reinvents summer fun for a different experience that your child will never forget! This year’s camp director is Stephanie Berg, sixth grade history teacher at Parkview. Camp will be June 22-26 from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m

Iowa Department of Education Hosts Iowa Financial Literacy Summit
Teachers, students and parents are invited to attend the Iowa Financial Literacy Summit on May 5 from 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
at the Iowa Events Center in Des Moines. The Iowa Department of Education is hosting this event as part of a broader effort to improve Iowa students' financial literacy skills. Tickets are available through April 21
