Online information center now available for Physical Plant and Equipment Levy renewal election -
The Physical Plant and Equipment Levy (PPEL) is the primary source of funds for repair, equipping and improving Ankeny Schools. On September 9, residents will vote on whether to renew this important levy. The PPEL Voter Information Center is a one-stop shop for information about the renewal vote.  Visit this site to learn about how PPEL is used, the implications of passage or failure, tax information and more. 

Community Education outreach program receives donation:
Ankeny Community Education is excited to announce that The Ankeny Klothing Exchange (TAKE) received a donation from Modern Woodman of America (MWA) through their Matching Fund Program.  TAKE held a waffle fundraiser this summer to raise over $2,600 to assist with expenses.  Through the Matching Fund Program, TAKE accepted a check from MWA for $5,166.35.  Read more about TAKE here.
CE Advisory Member Dave Kissinger named Hometown Hero:
Congratulations to Ankeny Community Education Advisory Council member, Dave Kissinger for being named Hometown Hero by Modern Woodman Fraternal Financial on August 19!  Along with the Advisory Council, Dave has also been involved with Project Fresh Start and has served the Ankeny District as a counselor, teacher, coach, and sports announcer.  In addition, he served the city of Ankeny as a council member.  View a picture of Mr. Kissinger with his award here.
Register now for ACT« and PSAT/SAT« preparation seminars:
One PSAT/SAT® preparation seminar and two ACT® preparation seminars are being offered by Ankeny Community Education through the ZAPS Learning Company. The seminars, all offered in September, include five hours of personal instruction, test strategies and a customized study plan. View more information on the Preparation Seminars here and then register via the Community Education Web Store.
Ankeny ACT scores improve in every category; composite average tops 24 points for the first time -
Continuing a long-term trend of increasing scores, students in Ankeny have again raised the bar for the school district’s composite average score on the ACT®.  Graduates from the Class of 2014 achieved an average score of 24.1, the first time the district has topped the 24-point mark in this measure. Additionally, students equaled or improved upon the best marks from the past five years in all tested categories, with highlights of a 24.3 average in both reading and science.  Read the full ACT article here.
School Board candidate forum September 4 at 7:00 PM; AHS auditorium -
The Ankeny Area Chamber of Commerce invites the Ankeny community to a School Board Candidate Forum on Thursday, September 4, at 7:00 p.m. in the Ankeny High School auditorium.  School Board candidates Aaron Johnson and Rick Langel plan to participate in this special event with Jeff Wright as moderator.

Community invited to Rock Creek open house September 14, 1:00-4:00 p.m. -
The Ankeny Board of Education would like to invite the community to an open house and ribbon-cutting ceremony at Rock Creek Elementary school at 3800 NW Abilene Road on Sunday, September 14, 2014.  An open house will be held from 1:00-4:00 p.m., with a brief ceremony at 3:00 p.m.  Read more about the open house here.

Record number of Ankeny students are AP Scholars -
A record 93 members of the Ankeny Schools' Classes of 2014 and 2015 have earned College Board AP Scholar Awards in recognition of exceptional achievement on Advanced Placement (AP) Exams. This is the largest number of Ankeny students ever honored by the College Board, and it continues a long-term trend of increasing numbers of AP scholars in Ankeny. In addition to being named AP Scholars, 18 students were designated AP Scholars with Honor and 26 students were designated AP Scholars with Distinction. Three students were named National AP Scholars, equaling the district’s high point for this honor.  Read more and see the honored students here.

"An Instrument in Every Hand" seeks donations:

Do you have a band instrument collecting dust that could bring an Ankeny student the joy and benefit of music?  "An Instrument In Every Hand" is accepting donations of band instruments at any Ankeny school any time during school hours.  The program was started last year by AHS student Quinn Wilson, and has helped more than 50 students participate in the band program.  If you have any questions contact Vicky Anderson,

65+ Activity Pass
Community residents age 65 or older are reminded they are eligible for a free activity pass to Ankeny Schools home events.  Passes are honored at all Ankeny home events except for sectional, district and regional playoffs sponsored by State Associations.  If you are eligible for a pass but have not received one, please visit Beth Rasmussen at the district administration office at 306 SW School Street.   If you have questions about the pass, please call 289-3920.
