Daylight Savings Time Ends This Weekend
Don't forget: Daylight savings time ends and we return to standard time this weekend at 2:00 AM Sunday, November 2. Remember to set your clocks back ("fall back") one hour Saturday night.
November 6 flu clinic location changed to Southview Middle School -
The Polk County Health Department flu clinic originally scheduled to be held at Ankeny High School on November 6 has been changed to Southview Middle School at 1020 SW Cherry Street. Please note this change of location. Ankeny Community School District is again partnering with the Polk County Health Department to provide seasonal flu vaccination clinics, and vaccinations will be available to all staff and students, and to the public. AHS to stage production of "FOOLS!" October 31-November 2:
The Ankeny High School Drama Department will present the play, FOOLS! October 31 at 7:30 p.m., November 1 at 7:30 p.m. and November 2 at 2:00 p.m. in the AHS Auditorium. Tickets are $5 for all attending, and will be available at the door. This slap-stick comedy is unforgettably funny and promises to have you rolling on the floor with laughter! Don't miss it. Winter clothing donations available November 2 and 3:
If you are in need of winter outer wear for your Ankeny student(s), the F.E.W.D. (Faith and Education Winter Donations) program, supported by Project Fresh Start through the Ankeny Community Education Department, will distribute donated winter clothing on:
No need analysis form is required to receive needed winter wear. Recipients will only be asked for student age and proof of Ankeny residence (such as driver’s license or a bill with an Ankeny address). View more information on the donation drive.

AHS Show Choir Fall Show Blitz tickets now on sale online:
It's SHOW TIME! The AHS show choirs, Visual Adrenaline, Perpetual Motion and Intensity will debut their first public performances of the season. Each performance will also feature exclusive individual and small group musical numbers, including Cherry Coke and After Hours!

Any remaining tickets can be purchased at the door. Ankeny High School is located at 1155 SW Cherry Street. Parking is offered in the southeast lot, closest to Kum & Go. Ankeny's first hosting of the statewide middle school cross country meet deemed a success!:
On Saturday, October 18, a nearly 100-member volunteer crew comprised of Ankeny Centennial High School cross country runners and their families welcomed athletes from all four corners of the state to Ankeny. The runners came to compete in the Dick Washburn Classic middle school statewide cross country meet. This is the first year Ankeny has hosted the meet, which is sponsored by the Iowa Association of Track Coaches (IATC). Read more about the event's success
Kids learn about "super foods" during Community Ed class:
Ankeny Community Education and Ankeny Prairie Trail Hy-Vee dietitians partnered to bring a new experience to youth in second through fifth grades. The "Super Food Snack Attack" course on October 18 was a fun, hands-on class focusing on "super foods." Read more about this class for elementary students

can find answers during a free presentation by the Iowa College Access Network (ICAN) hosted at Ankeny Centennial High School Tuesday, November 18 at 6:30 p.m. Learn more about the program here.
District Equity Committee seeking members:
The district is looking for members to serve on its Equity Committee. The group meets four times during the course of the school year, and is comprised of parents, teachers, district administration and community members. Topics may include district equity efforts, the district Affirmative Action Plan, multicultural curriculum, and equitable opportunities and participation in activities for students with 504 Accommodation Plans and Special Education Plans. AHS and ACHS celebrate high academic achievers:
During recent awards ceremonies, Academic Letter Awards were presented to ACHS and AHS students who earned an unweighted cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.67 or higher at the end of the 2013-2014 school year.
School District seeking proposals for website design, hosting and technical support services -
Ankeny Community School District is seeking proposals for website design, hosting and technical support services to replace its current website platform. Proposals for the project will be due by November 12, 2014 at 3:30 PM.

Marching Hawks take two third-place honors; Best Drum Majors award:
The Ankeny Marching Hawks received two third-place finishes and rave reviews from the judges in their two debut performances in Cedar Rapids on October 4. Student commanders Erin Miller, Breanna Stiles, and Quintin Konen won the prestigious ranking of “Best Drum Majors” at the “2014 Five Seasons Marching Band Invitational." ACHS Marching Band to perform in 2015 NYC National Veterans Day Parade -
The Ankeny Centennial High School Marching Band is proud to announce they have accepted an invitation to march in the National Veterans Day Parade in New York City on November 11, 2015. The parade features more than 20,000 participants, including veterans of all eras, active duty military, ROTC and JrROTC units, and civic and youth groups, all accompanied to music performed by a selection of our nation's best high school marching bands, drill teams and step dancers.
