STUDENT PERSONNEL

#504.30-ATTENDANCE DUE TO INJURY/COMMUNICABLE/NONCOMMUNICABLE CONDITIONS

The principal or the nurse has the authority to refuse attendance at school to any student suspected of being a health risk to other students or himself/ herself, until the parent/guardian of the student provides a release from their physician to the effect that such student does not have the contagious condition and is not a risk to their health or the health of others. Parent/ guardian notification and standard procedures should be followed when refusing attendance.

If, in the nurse's/teacher's judgement, the student, upon returning from a noncommunicable condition, appears fully recovered, no physician's release should be required. If, however, the teacher is doubtful about the student's condition, he/she should consult the nurse. If the nurse is in doubt, the student should be sent home, and readmission into school would require a physician's release.
