Principles for
Assessment and Evaluation
- The primary purpose of assessment is to improve learning.
- Assessment/evaluation is an ongoing process for all stakeholders
of the learning community (i.e. parents, students, staff, school
board, community members) and will be reviewed on a regular basis.
- The assessment system will be multi-faceted to reflect a
total picture of the learner.
- A vital component of assessment and evaluation includes the
following:
- Effective communication
- Focusing on each learner's needs by setting goals, conferencing,
and reporting
- Learner involvement and ownership
- Effective feedback that impacts learning and promotes growth.
- Assessment leads to a "celebration of successes"
and allows learners to build on their successes.

District Testing Assessment
It is the position of the Ankeny Community School District
that assessment should provide opportunities for all students
to successfully meet established standards. Teaching and assessment
should address a broad range of learning, including the recall
of facts and the application of knowledge. Assessment should provide
an opportunity for students to learn, gain ownership in their
education, and improve their performance. Standardized tests,
as well as alternative assessments, provide meaningful information
about individual ability, achievement, progress and potential.
Standardized Tests
The standardized testing program of the Ankeny Community Schools
is designed to give comparative information about student ability
and profess as well as the effectiveness of the educational program.
