General District Information

The Ankeny Community School District is located in Polk County, Iowa, in the heart of the State of Iowa. Six miles from the capitol city of Des Moines, the district:
  • Will serve more than 7,800 students in '08-'09
  • Encompasses 11 school buildings
  • Is the 10th largest district in the state
  • Has a K-5, 6-7, 8-9, 10-12 grade level structure
  • Is the 3rd fastest-growing district in the state
 
Ankeny Community Schools enjoy an outstanding reputation in the state and the Mid-west for an exemplary and balanced curricular and co-curricular program designed to meet the needs of all students. Some of the accomplishments Ankeny students achieved in 2007-2008 were:
  • 96% Graduation Rate (486 out of 507 seniors)
  • 129 students took 5 or more AP/Honors classes
  • 84% of those taking the ACT scored 20 or higher
  • 23.39 average composite score on the ACT
  • Seven students scored 34 or higher on the ACT
  • 9700 DMACC credits were earned by students
  • Two National Merit Scholar finalists
  • A Presidential Scholar
  • 78% of the graduating class will attend college
  • The show choir was ranked number two nationally
  • The girls’ golf team won a state championship
  • The football team finished second in state 4A class
