ANKENY, Iowa (December 4, 2015) - Congratulations to the Southview Middle School eighth graders who finished second in the state online Thinking Cap Tournament. Team members include: Andrew Breuner, Sam Belding, Carter Tams, Sam Wu, Jake Staub, Jackson Porter, Luke Lilienthal, Gannon Kohn, Jake Leiendecker, Jae Swanepoel, Caleb Skow, Emily Pederson, and Andi Califf. The team is coached by Nathan Coombes.
"It was a great opportunity for these eighth graders to compete in a state-wide competition." said Coombes. "Their hard work really paid off."
The online tests are self-scoring and assessed by a computer. The tournament consist of 100 multiple choice questions on the following subjects: math, geography, government, sports, spelling, science, literature, and English.
In addition to the group who took second place, Southview had a second team finish sixth in the state. Northview Middle School's team finished 15 out of 42 teams in the competition. The first place team was from Ames Middle School.
