ANKENY, Iowa (January 5, 2016) - Ankeny Centennial volleyball player Tasha Vipond has been named to the Des Moines Register's annual All-State Elite Volleyball Team, and coach Jessica Rinehart was selected as the Iowa Volleyball Coach of the Year.
“Tasha had a phenomenal senior season,” said Jessica Rinehart, ACHS volleyball coach. “She was a force at the net and a huge go-to player for us. More importantly, she was a great leader and a great teammate, and played a major role in leading our team to back-to-back state championships."
“We would like to congratulate Jessica for being selected the Iowa HS Volleyball Coach of The Year by the Des Moines Register," said Tom Kinseth, ACHS athletic director. “This is her second honor as she was also selected 5A Volleyball Coach of the Year by the Iowa Girls Coaches Association earlier last month. Winning back-to-back state championships is an amazing accomplishment for a brand new high school like Ankeny Centennial. Jessica and her staff have definitely raised the bar for future Jaguar teams. We appreciate Jessica’s and her staff’s time and commitment to Jaguar Volleyball at Ankeny Centennial High School."
Congratulations also to Ankeny High School junior Alyssa Ballenger for receiving an Honorable Mention to the All-Iowa Volleyball Team.
For decades, the Register has unveiled annual all-state teams in football, volleyball, and boys' and girls' basketball. Just recently, they announced they are expanding coverage to include 21 All-Iowa Sports Awards teams for boys and girls.
The program will recognize athletes from all across Iowa and will be selected by the Register’s staff, with input from coaches around the state.
The Register will host an All-Iowa Sports Awards banquet to recognize the athletes and their families. The inaugural banquet takes place June 18 at the Iowa Events Center in Des Moines with keynote speaker five-time NFL MVP and Super Bowl champion Peyton Manning.
