ANKENY, Iowa (January 6, 2016) - The Ankeny High School varsity football, basketball, and wrestling cheer teams were honored to perform at the Allstate® Sugar Bowl Halftime Show in New Orleans, Louisiana on January 1, 2016.

The Allstate Sugar Bowl is a blend of Cajun music and New Orleans culture. AHS cheerleaders will joined select cheer and dance groups from across the nation to perform in the Louisiana Superdome (home of the Saints) in front of 75,000 fans, and celebrate the new year.

"Being able to cheer and dance along with other teams from across the country in such an amazing atmosphere resulted in memories that will last a lifetime," said Katie Bales, Head AHS Cheerleading Coach.  "Our cheerleaders had an amazing time!"

AHS was one of only 25-30 teams selected to participate in this year's halftime show.

"We've had great past bowl participants from central Iowa, so we took a closer look to see what the Des Moines metro-area had to offer in terms of cheer programs," said Emily Hales, Halftime Event Director. "Our research introduced us to the Ankeny cheerleaders, and we are thrilled. The Ankeny program is of perfect caliber for the Sugar Bowl and we want to give them the recognition they deserve."

In addition to the halftime performance, the cheerleaders had an opportunity to take a Masters Class with Choreographer Chris Judd who has quite an impressive resume; dancing for performers such as Janet Jackson, Cher, Celine Deon, N'Sync, and Jennifer Lopez.

"We were very fortunate to be one of the groups that was chosen for this exciting performance," added Bales.
