Ankeny Community Schools to Dive into a New Pool in 2017
ANKENY, Iowa (February 10, 2016) –Ankeny Community School District (ACSD) and Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) have entered into a 28e agreement for the shared use of a new competition swimming pool facility to open in the spring of 2017. The facility will be located on DMACC’s Ankeny campus, featuring an eight-lane, fast-water swimming pool, diving area, and an expanded deck area for seating that will accommodate at least 500 spectators.
The school district now will have a modern training and competition facility with diving capability, expanding the Ankeny swim teams’ ability to be more competitive statewide. It also showcases the potential ACSD and DMACC partnerships can bring. Under the new agreement, Ankeny school activities will have exclusive use of the swimming pool and deck area within the agreement’s schedule.
“We are excited to begin this new partnership with DMACC that will truly benefit our school community,” said Dr. Bruce A. Kimpston, Ankeny Superintendent of Schools, “Ankeny’s swim teams will continue to excel with the access to a new competition pool with a diving area. This is yet another project in which Ankeny has partnered with DMACC for the benefit of our students.”
“This pool is part of a new Student Activity and Fitness Center that DMACC is constructing on its Ankeny Campus that will include a veterans center, black box theatre, food court, conference center, student meeting rooms, staff offices, game room and significant student gathering space. The Student Center is planned to open in fall 2016 with the fitness area opening in spring 2017,” stated DMACC President, Rob Denson.
