AHS Students Score High Marks on National Spanish Exam

ANKENY, Iowa (May 26, 2016) - Ankeny High School Spanish students earned high marks recently on the National Spanish Exam administered each spring.  The optional exam allow students to be recognized for their outstanding modern language skills at the state and national levels.
 
"The results are a reflection of the students’ dedication to learning another language in a quality school system," said Jillian Anderson, AHS foreign language teacher.
 
Congratulations to all the students participating in this challenging exam and to those receiving high marks.

Level V

Alessandro Elia received honorable mention nationally and placed fifth in the state.

Level IV

Renee Ruvalcaba received a bronze metal nationally and placed seventh in the state.
Daniel Gressley received an honorable mention nationally.

Level III

Franchesca Porter received a bronze metal nationally and placed fifth in the state.
Emma St. Clair and Landon Geren received honorable mentions nationally.
 
The National Spanish Exam is sponsored by the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese and is administered every spring. Students in grades 6 through 12 are eligible.

“Attaining a medal or honorable mention for any student on the National Spanish Examinations is very prestigious,” said Kevin Cessna-Buscemi, National Director of the Exams. “Exams are the largest of their kind in the United States with over 157,000 students participating in 2016.”
