The Ankeny Community School District and the City of Ankeny are partnering to host the Second Annual "Play It Forward" sports equipment drive, an event aimed to help all kids stay active and part of the game with the proper sports gear.
"Play It Forward" will be accepting donations of gently used and new sports equipment including bats, balls, gloves, racquets, cleats, shoes, helmets, bags, and more March 20 – 31. Exercise equipment will not be accepted. Donations can be dropped off at the following Ankeny locations:
Ankeny Community Education Office 306 SW School St. Monday-Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Ankeny Public Services Building, Parks & Recreation Office 220 W First St. Monday-Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
AFUMC, Christian Life Center 710 NE 36th St. Monday-Friday, 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.
St. Paul Lutheran Church 1100 SE Sharon Drive Monday-Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m., Sunday, 8 a.m. to Noon
The donated equipment will be given away to Ankeny area families in need on a first-come first serve basis on April 1, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Lakeside Center, 400 NW Lakeshore Drive.
