Southeast Elementary Receives $35,000 Cash for Classrooms Grant from Casey’s for Book Vending Machine

Southeast Elementary School is a 2021 Casey’s Cash for Classrooms grant recipient. The school received $35,000 to purchase a book vending machine. This project will help foster student love for reading by making books more accessible and fun to choose.  The book vending machine will be utilized as a reward in conjunction with the school’s Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) program.

“We know that when students are engaged in rich text and books, they are going to fall in love with reading. The more they read, the better their success is in life.  We are so grateful to receive a Cash for Classrooms grant and are excited to complete this important project that will enrich our student’s lives,” said Erin Adair, Principal at Southeast.

“The past year has been unlike any other for schools, and our Cash for Classrooms grants will help schools through this difficult time as well as to improve the learning environment for the future. Casey’s is here for good and that means supporting students, teachers and families in our local communities,” said Katie Petru, Director of Community at Casey’s.

The project at Southeast Elementary involves the purchase of the book vending machine and also purchasing books to replenish stock and furniture and materials to set up a reading nook for the students. The project is expected to be completed later this fall.
