202.20 President

The President of the Board shall be a member of the Board of Directors and shall be elected by a majority vote of the Board at its organizational or annual meeting to serve a one-year term of office. During nonelection years, the president shall be elected to serve for one year at a regular meeting held not less than one year, nor more than thirteen months, after the prior organizational meeting.

Board members elected to offices of the Board will take the oath of office.

It is the Board president’s responsibility to lead the Board of Education in a well-organized, efficient, and effective manner. The Board president will set the tone of Board meetings and, as the representative of the consensus of the Board, speak on behalf of the Board to the public.

Prior to Board meetings, the Board president will consult with the Superintendent on the development of the agenda for the meeting. The Board president will preside at Board meetings, and take an active role in Board decisions in the same manner as other Board members. Before making or seconding a motion, the Board president will turn over control of the meeting to another Board member.

The Board president has the authority to call special meetings of the Board.

The Board president, as the chief officer of the District, will sign employment and other contracts, as well as District warrants approved by the Board. The Board president will appear on behalf of the school district corporation in causes of action involving the District.
