404.10 Authorized Absence Without Pay

Within the parameters established by law, policy, and bargained agreements, the District has discretion to authorize employees who have exhausted all relevant forms of paid leave to be absent from work without pay. An employee seeking an authorized absence from work without pay must request the leave in the manner designated by the District prior to the desired absence. The leave shall not be considered authorized until it has been approved by Human Resources. An employee who fails to secure approval for an unpaid absence prior to incurring that absence may be subject to discipline up to and including termination.

Employees covered by collective bargaining agreements should refer to those agreements for additional information. Other employees should refer to the benefit descriptions for their employee groups.
