505.51 Research Request

Proposals for formal research projects involving the District’s student, employees, and /or non-public data will be made via an Application for Permission to Conduct Research and submitted to the District as instructed.

Any person requesting to conduct research that relates to curriculum and instruction must first get approval from Chief Officer of Academic Services that the research being conducted will align with the District’s curriculum.

In making a determination of whether the research proposal will be approved, the Superintendent/ designee will assess whether the intended research is appropriate to the goals of the District’s educational program and the likelihood that the research will unduly burden students or staff or infringe upon instructional time.

Research proposals will not be used to discriminate, or in any other way, discriminate against any student on the basis of race, color, creed, national origin, sex, physical or mental ability or disability, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, socioeconomic status, or marital status, in accordance with applicable law.

No student is required, as part of a program funded by the United States Department of Education, to submit, without prior consent of the student (if the student is an adult or emancipated minor) or prior written consent from the student’s parent, to surveys, analysis or evaluation which reveals information concerning:

  • political affiliations; or beliefs of the student or student’s parent;
  • mental or psychological problems of the student or the student’s family;
  • sex behavior or attitudes;
  • illegal, anti-social, self-incriminating or demeaning behavior;
  • critical appraisals of other individuals with whom respondents have close family relationships;
  • legally recognized, privileged and analogous relationships, such as those of lawyers, physicians and ministers;
  • religious practices, affiliations or beliefs of the student or student’s parent; or
  • income, (other than that required by law to determine eligibility for participation in a program or for receiving financial assistance under such program).

The researcher will not initiate the study in the school until he/she has received written approval from the District.

Research findings will be shared with the District, if so requested.
