602.04 Pilot-Experimental-Innovative Projects

The Superintendent/designee will develop a process for review of proposals for pilot, experimental, or innovative projects, courses, or programs and will, when appropriate, recommend select proposals to the Board for consideration. Pilot courses approved by the Board, the Iowa Department of Education, or the U. S. Department of Education may be utilized in the education program.

Parent/guardians must provide written consent for their minor children to participate in a research or experimental project or program designed to explore or develop new or unproven teaching methods or techniques. Student information related to this participation will be protected in accordance with FERPA.

The educational materials of a program or project designated as research or experimental may be inspected and reviewed by parents/guardians of participating students participating or students being considered for participation. in accordance with Board Policy 605.01 Instructional Materials Inspection.
