Role of the Teacher Librarian

  • Teacher & Co-Teacher

    • Work with PLCs, especially Teacher Librarian PLCs K-12, 8-9, 6-12
    • Co-teach in variety of curricular areas: language arts, social studies, health, technology, science
    • Instruct in research-related, copyright, information services skills
    • Mentor new teachers to Ankeny
    • Work with practicum library students
    • Create of digital citizenship lessons for building-wide advisory program

    Technology & Information Specialist

    • Roll-out of 1:1 Chromebook Initiative
    • Supervise SV Tech Teen and Student Library Assistant Programs
    • Build website
    • Curate of databases, website, online resources
    • Working Google Educator Certification

    Library Programing

    • Oversee collection development of over 6,000 items
    • Create makerspace offerings 
    • Develop and oversee Student Library Committee
    • Partner with Kirkendall Library for summer reading program
    • Sustain library program offering bi-weekly library hours throughout summer
    • Promote reading through varied initiatives
      • Friendly competition among SV teams to see who can read the most books
      • Fall, Winter, Spring Reads
      • Moderate SV READS!
      • Create displays to advocate books
    • Purchase books that support curricular needs and target 8-9 reading audience
    • Promote AHS/CHS Open Mic Night
    • Open library monthly during summer months for activities and book checkouts
