Mr. Kevin McColley

Hi, I'm Mr. McColley

I've been an art instructor for Ankeny Community Schools since the 2006-07 school year.  My wife's name is Cheryl, and we married here in Ankeny in the Spring of '06.  We have two amazing girls (Chloe and Sophia) that keep life entertaining in every way.  I get a little worked up thinking about how quickly they are growing up.

My wife and I both grew up in Cedar Rapids, Iowa on the Northeast side of town.  I am the youngest of 3 children.  I have two older sisters named Anna, and Keri (who each have a girl of their own).  I graduated from Iowa State University with a degree in Fine Arts (with an emphasis in Graphic Design) before moving onto my education certification, which I completed at the University of Iowa.  As of 2016 I earned my Master's from Graceland University with my focus on technology integration in the classroom.

In addition to my teaching duties, I am or have been involved in many activities in Ankeny. I have volunteered as a basketball coach for Ankeny students (in 2006-2007), I've coached football for the Ankeny Hawks aiding the 8th grade and Varsity teams (2005-2009), involved in social committee as co-chair President (2010-12), coached my daughter's teeball and basketball teams (2013-present), from time-to-time I have been involved in the Big Brothers & Big Sisters mentoring program, and worked with Iowa State University visiting their campus with Ankeny students.
My passions in life is to spend as much time humanly possible with my wife and two daughters.  When not doing this, I love teaching kids to be the best role models for others.  Lastly, I love spending time with great friends, watching sports, and great movies.
Thanks for checking out my personal bio.

If you'd like to see things that our Ankeny students are creating 6/7 feel free to go to my website: The course description found under my class syllabus is great, but if you'd like to visually see things the kids have created go to the page titled "Art Projects."  Also, please feel free to get in touch with me if you have any questions or comments on your child(rens) art class by emailing me at
