WELCOME TO THE VIRTUAL BACKPACK!
What is the Ankeny Virtual Backpack?
The Virtual Backpack (vBackpack) allows the Ankeny Community School District to serve as a conduit of information. The VBackpack includes the electronic distribution of non-school materials that meet the criteria established by school-board policy. Information is updated on the first of each month and distributed via the vBackpack during the school year from September 1 through May 1.What are the criteria for approval?
Non-district related materials must meet the following parameters to be approved:
- Submitting organization is an entity within the Ankeny community, or the activity or event will benefit students and/or families within the Ankeny community.
- Event is a youth related program, activity, or event for students and/or families.
- Event is intended to improve the health, education, or welfare of students.
- Submitting organization is non-profit or the event is not for profit.
The majority of vBackpack information are from community organizations. All flyers must meet certain guidelines, governed by School Board Policy #1004.25.
How do I submit my information?
Community Engagement approves all non-district information for the vBackpack. The deadline for submission is two weeks before the first of the month.
Use the Virtual Backpack Online Form to submit information for the vBackpack.
Can I post a flyer in the vBackpack?
To conform to accessibility guidelines, information, rather than flyers, will be included in the vBackpack. A link to an external website can be included if you'd like to share your flyer on your own website, or provide a link to more information.
Can I send paper flyers to students?
According to school board policy, materials are not to be delivered directly to school buildings. Approved, non-district information is sent electronically during the regularly scheduled monthly distribution. The only exception are paper copies distributed to students who do not have internet access. For specific information on providing paper copies for non-internet students, contact Heidi Palkovic at firstname.lastname@example.org or 515-289-3963.
