Frequently Asked Questions
Ankeny Schools preschool students are provided instruction by a certified teacher who holds an endorsement in Early Childhood Education and Special Education Instruction for PK. All Ankeny Community School District preschool classrooms are integrated and designed to provide opportunities for children to play, learn, and interact with peers who have various disabilities. The Ankeny preschool program engages students in the Creative Curriculum Framework and implements the Iowa Quality Preschool Program Standards.
Session Times/Locations for 2020-2021
All preschool classrooms will be at Terrace Learning Center, 310 NW School Street.
Sessions are 2-1/2 hours long and held on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday.
Morning sessions will begin between 8:00 a.m. and 8:30 a.m., ending between 10:30 a.m. and 11:00 a.m.
Afternoon sessions will begin between 11:30 a.m. and 12:00 p.m., ending between 2:00 p.m. and 2:30 p.m.
The first day of Preschool is the Tuesday after Labor Day.
Transportation is not provided to or from preschool. Pay-to-ride through Durham Bus Services is NOT available for preschool students at this time.
Preschool is free for students who are FOUR years old on or before September 15, 2020 through the Statewide Voluntary Preschool Grant. Financial assistance is available to families in need for children who are THREE years old on or before September 15, 2020. Please contact us at (515) 289-8945 for further information.
Students who are FIVE years old on or before September 15, 2020 are not eligible for our preschool program; instead they are eligible for kindergarten. Please visit the District Registrar's website for information about kindergarten registration for 2020-2021.
We are fortunate to have a preschool program in which a large and growing number of students and parents wish to participate. We hope that you and your child will be pleased with our high-quality program. Because of the high volume of requests for classroom tours, however, we are unable to accommodate tour requests at this time.
- 1 regular-sized backpack (labeled with the child's name; no wheels)
- 1 plastic pocket folder (labeled with the child's name)
- 1 white binder (1.5 inch) with clearview pocket in front (labeled inside with child's name)
