- Engaged our community in ALICE principles
- Included ALICE strategies in our District emergency preparedness manual
ALICE is an acronym that stands for Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, and Evacuate. The acronym is not intended to be used sequentially. For example, alert and inform refer to the communication involved in a threat, whereas lockdown, evacuate, and counter are the physical responses you would pursue.
Alert: Alert is your first notification of danger. It is when you first become aware of the threat.
Lockdown: Lockdown is to stay secure in place, and prepare to evacuate or counter, if needed.
Inform: Inform is to communicate the intruder’s location in real time to others.
Counter: Counter is to interrupt the intruder and make it difficult or impossible for them to aim their weapon. This is a strategy of last resort and completely optional.
Evacuate: Evacuate is to remove yourself from the danger zone when it is safe to do so.
It’s important to note that your student should always listen to the responsible adults during an emergency situation. The responsible adult has undergone the ALICE training and is the best judge of the safest route of action.
