Computer Science Dana Degeeter

I started teaching in the Ankeny School District in 2020 and have been teaching since 2001. I have taught computer science for over 10 years and have taught all math courses from 7th grade math through AP Calculus. I have coached cross country, basketball, and track. I have a degree in both secondary math education and applied computer science with a master of arts in teaching.

Each class I teach is taught to the group of students and to the individuals within that class. Just because I have two programming classes in one day doesn’t mean that they are taught the same way. Equity is not equality, meaning that “Being fair is not having everything be equal”. Each class and each student has their own individual needs that I will do my best to accommodate. I also care about helping all (yes, every single student that is in my class) students be successful in college, the professional world, and in life. I don’t just teach computer programming. I teach students to be independent life-long learners, set goals, constructively explore options, challenge themselves, and discuss how to go about making important decisions when it comes to comparing colleges, career paths, or anything else that is important to the student. The content is just a tool to help students learn how to learn and helps open doors for them in the future.

If you have a student in one of my classes, please don’t hesitate to ever reach out to me if I can make their experience better. I am very flexible and care more about what the students learn rather than how they learn it. I am here to teach your child using computer science as a tool to help them learn. Email is the best way to contact me.
