About Mr. K

I graduated from Northwest Missouri State University (GO BEARCATS!) with my BS Ed in English, Speech, and Theatre in 2000.  Then, I earned my MA in English in 2001 from NWMSU and my MS Ed in Educational Leadership from Park University in 2012.  Currently, I am earning my EdD in Learning and Organizational Change from Baylor University. My teaching experience includes a small and a medium size school district from the suburban area of Kansas City, MO.  In 2013, my family and I moved to Ankeny where I began teaching and coaching at Ankeny Centennial High School.  For ten years, I served as an ELA Instructor and the Head Debate Coach at Ankeny Centennial as well as the Head Girls’ XC Coach and Assistant Track Coach at Ankeny High School.  I was lucky enough to serve both high schools, experiencing all that Ankeny Schools has to offer. Currently, I am the Assistant Principal at Southview Middle School.

My wife and I have two beautiful daughters, one who attends school in the Ankeny Community School District and the other attends the University of Iowa.  We love outdoor adventures, family movie nights, and vacationing in warm climates or at any oceanside beach.  I also enjoy writing poetry, reading, running long distances, and am beginning a new journey in strength training.  Another passion of mine is derived from my time serving in the United States Marine Corp where I developed much of my character and leadership abilities.  I thank the Corps each day for those gifts.  Semper Fi!
