Art Guy Loraine

Based in Newton, Iowa artist Guy Loraine takes inspiration from his surroundings, nature and local culture to create works that present to the viewer a value based system derived out of what some would consider irrational undertakings and repetitive work. Through process oriented work, Mr. Loraine employs a variety of media such as Amana Colonies blanket ends, gouache, woodworking, photography and harvested items to create multifaceted installations and singular works or art that question the value one invests in time and labor. Mr. Loraine’s background includes an MFA in Sculpture from the University of the Arts in Philadelphia, BFA in photography from the Maryland Institute, College of Art in Baltimore and his K-12 teaching endorsement from Towson University. In addition to maintaining his studio practice, Mr. Loraine also works as an art educator and currently teaches at Ankeny High School in Ankeny Iowa.
