Literacy Leader Katy Piper

I have been a teacher in the Ankeny Community School District since 1997. I became the Reading Specialist at Prairie Trail Elementary in 2015. My mission as a reading specialist is to inspire students to believe in themselves and become lifelong readers. I use research-based strategies to help students deepen their understanding of language and text to interpret the world around them. I provide a safe, positive, nurturing environment while using targeted reading instruction to work toward meeting individual learning goals. I am committed as an educator to improve the confidence and reading comprehension of the students I teach so they are equipped with the skills to flourish in and contribute to an ever-changing world.
