ELL Teacher Kristina Moller
Hello! I teach English Language at Parkview, Prairie Ridge, and Northview. Welcome to my bio!
I am from southwest Missouri, but I have lived in many different places over the years, including South Korea, Washington state, and Colorado. I now call Des Moines home. My family consists of Benjamin, my partner who teaches elementary school special education, and Gizmo, a little kitten. In my free time, I enjoy reading, traveling, being in nature, and relaxing.
I have a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education with minors in Spanish and Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages from Missouri State University (Go Bears!) and a Master’s degree in Adult Education and Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages from City University of Seattle.
About English Language Class (EL)
I am pleased to welcome you and your student to the 2020-2021 school year! I am looking forward to getting to know you and your student throughout this year. I have two main goals as an EL teacher: to build community and to prepare students for academic success. I feel it is important for students to feel that they, their language, and their culture are valued in our classroom. I want students to feel valued, cared for, and supported. At the same time, I hold high expectations for students academically because developing their English skills is important for success in all of their academic classes. EL class focuses on academic English skills in all four language domains: listening, speaking, reading, and writing. However, student data shows us that reading and writing are the skills that need the most improvement, so much of our focus will be placed there. I truly hope that we can partner together to help students reach their language goals!
Please reach out to me with any questions you might have. I look forward to working with you this year!
