Mrs. Jenni Chambers

Hello! Welcome to the 6th Grade G team and Ancient Civilizations.  My name is Jenni Chambers and I am an Ankeny and ISU Graduate. I had 8 years’ experience prior to coming to Ankeny in 2001. One year in Texas, one year in West Des Moines and 6 years in Des Moines. I taught 10 years at Parkview Middle School and transferred here to Prairie Ridge in 2010 as we split into two middle schools. I will be guiding your student through ancient cultures for our Social Studies curriculum.  We will be focusing on our 6th Grade Social Studies standards of proficiency using the six ancient cultures of Mesopotamia, Egypt, India, China, Greece, and Rome.

We use colored pencils nearly every day for note-taking and I have found the twistable kind to be the most reliable and last the entire school year without needing to be replaced. Please consider this when making your back to school supply purchases. Additionally, we will be using the Chromebooks in a variety of ways throughout the week, please get in the habit of storing your earbuds in your Chromebook case and charging your device every night.

Students will examine ancient civilizations and the impact of their contributions on the world today.  The 6th grade curriculum will support students as they read and interact with historical text, interpret timelines and historical maps, and engage in critical thinking activities and simulations of ancient cultures.  Students will examine the role of geography, religion, written communications, and government in the rise of the ancient civilizations.

Please check out my other pages for specific subject information, weekly agendas/team calendar, course syllabus information, links for information and project support. The easiest way to contact me is through email.  Sixth grade is a big transition year, similar to that initial kindergarten experience for both kids and parents. Besides content goals, a major goal for 6th and 7th grade is to build independence in their learning and to become responsible students as they move from classroom to classroom.
