Mrs. Robyn Depping

6th & 7th Grade French and Spanish

Bonjour! ¡Hola!  I grew up in Indianola and graduated in 1993 from Northwest Missouri State University with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary-Secondary Education and a double major in French and Spanish. I continued my studies at the University of Southern Mississippi from which I received my master’s degree in Theories of Teaching Languages in 1996. I have taught French and Spanish, pre-k through adults, at summer camps, public schools, and through community education programs. I taught at Boone and Madrid, before coming to Ankeny in 1994. My husband, Michael, and I live in Madrid with our three daughters. They keep life exciting and I am sure you will hear stories of our adventures this year.

I have traveled abroad in England and France and spent a semester as an exchange student in Cuernavaca, Mexico. My most recent trips were to Mexico, Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic. I have a great admiration for the beauty and excitement of the many diverse cultures. Twenty-five different Spanish-speaking countries and fifty-one French-speaking countries have made for quite an extensive list of countries I would like to visit someday. I hope your students will enjoy our journey together this year.

French and Spanish is a semester long exploratory course. It is a letter-graded course. Students receive separate grades in each language at the end of the nine weeks. In eighth grade, students choose French or Spanish for a yearlong required course. I am available by email throughout the day.
