6th Grade J Team - Ancient Civilizations- (WEEKLY AGENDAS-are posted on teacher Advisory Google Classrooms)
Hello, and welcome to the 6th Grade J team. My name is Ginger Starkey and have been in the district since 1998. I will be guiding your student through ancient cultures for our Social Studies curriculum. We will be focusing on our 6th Grade Social Studies standards of proficiency using the six ancient cultures of Mesopotamia, Egypt, India, China, Greece, and Rome.
Students will examine ancient civilizations and the impact of their contributions on the world today. The 6th grade curriculum will support students as they read and interact with historical text, interpret timelines and historical maps, and engage in critical thinking activities and simulations of ancient cultures. Students will examine the role of geography, religion, written communications, and government in the rise of the ancient civilizations.
We will be using the Chromebooks in a varitety of ways throughout the week, please get in the habit of storing your earbuds in your Chromebook case and charging your device every night. Please know that Germx, Clorox wipes, tissues, and Ziploc baggies are always welcome.
Please refer to the email you were sent at the beginning of the year for specific subject information, course syllabus information, Back To School Night Presentations, links for information and project support, and semester project resources. The easiest way to contact me is through email. I do want to encourage you to communicate as frequently as you need and ask clarifying questions. Sixth grade is a big transition year, similar to that initial Kindergarten experience for both kids and parents. The kids have the benefit of living the experience and our daily support to get them up to speed. We are here to help and want to communicate with you regularly. I will be emailing through messenger our unit parent newsletters to keep you involved in our activities and content. Stay in touch and get ready for your child to become an obsessed historian and a more independent and accountable learner!
