Professional School Counselor
Dear Parents/Guardians,
Welcome to my page!  I'm Rachelle Spencer, professional school counselor at Parkview Middle School.  This year marks my 16th year as a counselor and my 1st at Parkview!  My journey as a school counselor began in 2003, after I received my Masters Degree in Education with an emphasis in Professional School Counseling from Drake University. I worked for 3 years st Sacred Heart School in West Des Moines, then another 3 years at Urbandale Middle School,  before I landed in Ankeny and was the school counselor at Prairie Trail Elementary for 5 years.   Prior to becomiing a counselor,  I earned my Bachelor's Degree in Psychology from Luther College and worked as a Substance Abuse Prevention Specialist at Employee & Family Resources in Des Moines for 7 years.
I am excited to be working with students in 6th grade on the Crimson and Maroon teams.  It is going to be a great year to work together to encourage and support your children as they begin their adventure through middle school!

My philosophy as a counselor is simple - I want to encourage and support each child to grow and learn through their educational experience.  I take seriously the task of nurturing and supporting children to explore and learn about themselves and to discover their unique qualities.  To do that, I will work diligently together with teachers and parents to create the best possible environment for that to happen.

In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my husband, Luke, and our 4 boys, Austin, Noah, Alonzo and Evan.  We enjoy doing anything outside and traveling to Colorado to visit family while we hike, raft, run and laugh often!  You may also find me cheering on my kids in one of their many sporting events or show choir competitions, or watching the Minnesota Vikings try to have a winning season!

I'm looking forward to getting to know you and your child(ren) and I hope you will stop by and visit, or call anytime with questions or ideas.  We are in this together and I thank you for supporting your child's education!

Let's have a great year!
