Degrees and Certifications:
Hello parents & students (Bonjour tout le monde),
Future trips: French Educational Tour: June, 2020 & French Exchange Trip: March, 2021
I have taught in Ankeny since 1995 at Parkview, Northview, AHS and currently at ACHS. Currently I am teaching French III, IV, & V (French IV & V are DMACC dual-college credit classes). In the past I have taught French at all grade levels, 6-12. I have also taught Beginning French at Grandview University as an adjunct professor.
I grew up in Minnesota and graduated from the U of MN with a double major in French and Speech-Communications and a minor in Foreign Studies. I studied for one year in Aix-en-Provence, France during college and have a MA in Education from the University of St. Thomas, and the equivalent of a MA in French, with 20 graduate credits in French. In addition, I was awarded 2 summer scholarships to study in Lyon, France in 1997 & 2007.
I am passionate about all things French, particularly the culture and cuisine. I love to travel and return to France as often as possible. I created and organized the French Exchange Program to Villers-Cotterets from 2009-2015, and currently run the French Educational Study Trip in the summer. Our next summer study trip will be June, 2020 to France & Monaco.
I love teaching French and sharing my passion with students. It continually amazes me to watch students build French proficiency skills that they can use in & out of the classroom. I have many former students who use French at the college level and in their careers with international companies like John Deere and Caterpiller! In a global society it is important for students to understand other cultures & speak more than one language. French is spoken on 5 continents in over 30 countries and is a useful language for international business, global travel, the military, and personal interests.
