Mr. Brent Buttjer

Activities Director

Welcome to Ankeny High School, Home of the Hawks and Hawkettes!! I am very humbled to be given the opportunity to serve the students, parents, staff, and the community of Ankeny.

I am originally from Cresco, IA where I attended Crestwood High School and participated in four sports, band, and show choir. It was this experience that originally began to prepare me to embrace the many challenges of being an Activities Director. I attended the University of Northern Iowa, majored in Physical Education, and minored in Athletic Training and Health Education.

My first teaching and coaching assignment was with the North Scott Community School District. I spent fifteen years in the district teaching K-6 and 9-12 Physical Education, Health, and Strength Training and Conditioning. I was the Head Athletic Trainer for five years, coached football for 12 years, and was the Head Baseball Coach for 10 years.

In 2007 I accepted the Assistant Principal/Activities Director position in Fort Madison, IA. This was a tremendous opportunity and one that I am very thankful for as we helped change the culture and we have many good friends there.

My family is very important to me, and they have been unbelievably supportive of my dreams. We try to find quality time, as the demands of the job often don't allow for quantity. My wife Kathy is the glue that holds the family together, my son Jack is at AHS, and my daughter Sophie is at Southview.

Thank you for the support of my family and our Hawks and Hawkettes!
