Degrees and Certifications:
I have been with the Ankeny School District since 2014 and have been teaching for the past 15 years. I started my teaching career in Indianapolis, Indiana where I taught all levels of English, as well as trained teachers across all disciplines in the area of reading.
I moved back to my home state of Iowa in 2013 and enjoy being closer to my family and the farm where I grew up. Following high school, I attended Simpson College and finished a Liberal Arts Degree at Iowa State University. During my time teaching in Indianapolis, I acquired a Master's Degree in Secondary English Education from Indiana University and a Master's Degree in Teaching and Leadership from Butler University.
Reading is my passion and I work to read at least 52 books each year. In all my English classes I have helped my students read an additional 800-1000 books in addition to the required common core curriculum.
Upon coming to the Ankeny School District in 2014-2015, I worked with students with intensive reading needs and focused on improving reading skills. For 2015-2016 I will be teaching English 11 and AP English Literature at Ankeny Centennial High School.
My goal is to help each student find a love of reading and realize there is always a good book out there, it's just a matter of finding it. When I'm not teaching, you can find me reading at home, catching the latest movie, or walking my dog around the block.
