Ellen is an Athletic Trainer. She has been with Ankeny High School’s athletic department since summer 2018. She is from Ankeny PT Powered by ARC+ and serves as the head athletic trainer for the Hawks. Ellen has been a certified athletic trainer since 2018 and graduated from Lenoir-Rhyne University in the spring of 2018 with a Master’s of Science in Athletic Training. She also graduated from Iowa State University in the spring of 2016 with a Bachelor’s of Science in Exercise Science. Ellen grew up in Ankeny, IA and graduated from Ankeny High School in 2012.
About Athletic Training Services
Provided in the athletic training room at AHS and SVMS.
Athletic trainers are health care providers that collaborate with physicians to provide preventative services, emergency care, clinical diagnosis, therapy, and the rehabilitation of injuries. Athletic training is recognized as a healthcare profession by the AMA (American Medical Association.)
Athletic Trainer Responsibilities:
- Injury prevention programs
- Physical evaluation
- Coordinating care with medical professionals
- Emergency care
- Injury disposition
- Rehabilitation and physical reconditioning and coordinating care as needed
- Organization and professional health and well-being of athletes
- Concussion return to play programs
- Communicating with coaches on injury status and return to full participation
All services provided at the high school are free of charge to student athletes. If additional health care is needed, this will be discussed with parents/guardians.
