Ankeny Schools’ Communications Earn Awards in State Contest

Iowa Schools Public Relations Association award ceremony

The Ankeny School District Communications Department won two “Best in Category” awards in the 2021 Iowa School Public Relations Association (ISPRA) communications contest. Communication departments from school districts, Area Education Agencies and other educational institutions are evaluated on a five-point scale by judges from Public Relations Associations in other states and this year the Wisconsin and California chapters shared judging responsibilities of the Iowa submissions. The rubric for each submission looks at design, clarity and focus, writing quality, how the pieces are evaluated, and overall effect. When averaged together, if a submission scores between 1-2, they earn an Award of Merit. Scores between 3-4.9 earned an Award of Excellence. Top scores of 5 out of 5 earned the top honor: the Blue & Gold Award as the best in the state. This is essentially a “Best in Category” award.

The district received one Award of Merit for a social media campaign to help increase diversity in applicant pools.

Four Awards of Excellence were also received by the district for the Orbis annual report, the Ankeny Schools Snapshot e-newsletter, the revenue purpose statement campaign materials, and the redesigned district website.

Finally, the district received two Blue and Gold Awards (Best in Category) for:
