School Board Election 2021

School board election 2021

An important component of our district is its governing body, the Ankeny Board of Education. On November 2, 2021, there is a school board election, and the Ankeny Community School District encourages any eligible Iowans who are passionate about education to consider running for one of the open seats.

Public schools need strong leadership and governance to ensure a lifetime of personal success for every learner in Ankeny Schools. Strong leadership is critical to moving education forward in our state. School board members play significant roles in their communities—they must have leadership, vision, and dedication. They are charged with accountability for student learning, determining educational goals, setting policy, overseeing school finances and more.

School board members are elected to serve four-year terms, with elections taking place in odd-numbered years. Those elected receive no pay. Experienced school board members say the rewards of service lie in meeting the needs of children and communities.

The Ankeny Community School District has three seats up for election on November 2. Nominations for open seats can be filed between August 23 and September 16. See all key dates and deadlines, as well as informational guides for candidates.

Nomination papers for school board seats are available from the Board Secretary Jennifer Jamison and may be picked up at 306 SW School St, Ankeny, IA 50023 between 7:30 a.m. – 4 p.m. School board candidates must obtain the signatures of at least 1% of the qualified electors of the district or 50 electors, whichever is less, but at least 10 signatures.
