Three Ankeny School Board Seats Open this Election

School board election

The Ankeny Community School District has three Board of Education seats up for election on November 2, 2021 and candidate filing is underway. Nominations for open seats can be filed between August 23 and September 16.

The board of education is the governing body for the school district. School board members play significant roles in the community and must have leadership, vision, and dedication. The board is charged with accountability for student learning, determining educational goals, setting policy, overseeing school finances and more.

School board members are elected to serve four-year terms, with elections taking place in odd-numbered years. Those elected receive no pay. Experienced school board members say the rewards of service lie in meeting the needs of children and communities.

“Serving on the Ankeny Community School District Board of Education is an honor and a privilege,” said current board member Amy Tagliareni. “It is rewarding to know that you are part of a body that is continually working to improve the lives of young people while also ensuring their safety and health. School board members must have a sincere interest in public education and continually advocate for strong public schools. Being on a school board is about working on policy and it is rewarding to implement policies that will ensure success for all students.”

Nomination papers for school board seats are available from the Board Secretary Jennifer Jamison and may be picked up at 306 SW School St, Ankeny, IA 50023 between 7:30 a.m. – 4 p.m. Please call 515-965-9600 to schedule an appointment for a packet pickup or to file your nomination papers.
