“Earning a Presidential Award is a humbling accomplishment that honors the time, energy, and dedication I have poured into creating a learning environment that values relationships, trust, reasoning, and students’ thinking,” says Mrs. Schneden. “This award amplifies the importance of cultivating a love of mathematics in our students while supporting each student’s pathway to understanding and success. I am honored to share this award with those who have helped me grow as an individual and educator.”

Each recipient receives a paid trip to Washington, D.C., to attend recognition events, professional development trainings and a $10,000 award sponsored by the National Science Foundation.

“We would like to extend our congratulations to you (Mrs. Schneden) and to others at Prairie Trail Elementary who fostered this outstanding teacher,” says Felecia Nave, Division Director, National Science Foundation.

The award was established in 1983 and is the highest award K-12 math and science teachers can receive from the U.S. government. Nominees progress through a rigorous application process and must demonstrate a deep content knowledge and ability to adapt to a broad range of learners and teaching environments.
