ANKENY, Iowa (December 5, 2016) - The Ankeny High School winter guard took home the state title in Class III Color Guard during the 40th annual Iowa State Drill Team Association Competition (ISDTA) at the Iowa Events
Center. The AHS team competed against ten other schools in their class. This is the guard’s second consecutive
first place finish at the state competition.
“I thought the performance was wonderful,” said Darrin Mell, choreographer and coach. “Their solid presentation was the culmination of an incredible year
for the Ankeny color guard and we couldn't have asked for anything more!”
The guard also earned a Distinguished Academic Achievement
Award for earning a GPA of over 3.5 for the 2015-2016 school year.
Members of the winter guard include: Abi Coglizer, Alex
Sigel, Aly McGuire, Anna Escherich, Catherine Toth, Cheyanne Scholl, Ciara
Brown, Claire McGohan, Grace Hanley, Hannah Keller, Jack Noonan, Kayli Abarr,
Lexi Higar, Lizzy Humpal, Rachel Heitz, Sara Kottra, and Savanna Scholl.

In addition, Ankeny Centennial High School received second in Class III Color Guard and also received the Distinguished Academic Achievement award.
