ANKENY, Iowa (April 10, 2018) - Southview Middle School's all-freshman JV Quiz Bowl team caps off their season with a state championship. The Ankeny High School team earned second in the state tournament after missing the last question. The varsity team finishes the season with the best record in school history 55-13.
"I am amazed at the growth and positive attitude of these students," said coach Nathan Coombes.
Two students, junior Kieran McCormick and sophomore Jackson Porter, were selected for All-State honors. The two were chosen for their excellent play in Quiz Bowl events from across the midwest during the 2017-2018 season. This is McCormick's third- and Porter's second-time receiving this honor.
In addition, Coombes was selected Iowa Quiz Bowl Coach of the Year. The recipient is chosen by the coaches.
"This is such a great honor," said Coombes. "I would not have received this award without the support from faculty, parents, and administrators. I look forward to the future of quiz bowl in Ankeny as it continues to grow."
