Field Trip to Rome

Sixth grade students in Jeff Glade's social studies class took a virtual field trip to see Roman ruins using an app called "Google Expeditions."  Glade was selected to test the app with his classes, which has not yet been released to the public.  Google Expeditions allows teachers to take students on virtual field trips to locations around the world.  Students can view underwater coral reefs, the moon, national parks, rainforests, and much more.

Each student in Glade's class used a tablet to look around the ruins.  When students pointed the tablet at the floor, they could see the ground and cobblestone.  When they pointed their tablet to the ceiling, students could view the sky and the tops of buildings.
