Girls' soccer player of the year Meg Brandt with former NFL quarterback Peyton Manning at the All-Iowa Sports Awards at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines.
ANKENY, Iowa (June 20, 2016) - Ankeny Centennial graduating senior Meg Brandt was one of 21 Iowa high school athletes honored during the first Des Moines Register's All-Iowa Sports Awards on June 18.
Brandt was chosen as the girls' soccer athlete of the year by an all-Iowa voting panel that included top
high school sports leaders and Des Moines Register staff. Brandt and her Ankeny Centennial teammates, just celebrated their 2016 state championship soccer win. This is the second state soccer title for Brandt, as a freshman her Ankeny High School team captured the title. She has won back-to-back Gatorade Player of the Year honors. Brandt will play for the University of Nebraska next year.
About 750 student-athletes attended the banquet at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines, including several of Ankeny's standout athletes who were nominated during the 2015-2016 school year in several different sports.
Super Bowl champion and retired NFL quarterback Peyton Manning was the
featured guest speaker. The event also featured a question-and-answer segment with Manning and his former teammate and
Iowa Hawkeye great, Dallas Clark.
