ANKENY, Iowa (August 30, 2017) - Ankeny Centennial High School teacher and girls' basketball coach Scott DeJong is receiving honors from the Big 12 Conference, the College Football Playoff (CFP) Foundation, and its Extra Yard for Teachers program.  DeJong will be granted $1,000 for classroom supplies.

DeJong was nominated by 2012 Ankeny High School graduate Maddie Manning.  Manning is a Big 12 student-athlete who is faeatured in the "Champions for Life" campaign.  Through this campaign, the Big 12 features stories of student-athletes who excel both in the classroom and on the field, and have benefitted from receiving an athletic scholarship.

"I enjoyed and learned a lot in my accounting class.  More than anything, I appreciate Coach DeJong for pushing students in all aspects of life," said Manning.  "He has had a great impact on my life in school, in basketball, and in who I've become."

"We are proud to recognize teachers who have made a difference in the lives of their students,” said CFP Executive Director Bill Hancock. "We hope these grants will provide resources these teachers need to continue their outstanding educational success, while acknowledging the importance of quality teachers in our country."
