Congratulations Jaguar Cheerleaders!
Stunt group 4A State Champs:
The Centennial cheerleaders took home the State Group Stunt 4A Championship title. Cheerleaders Paige Canova, Kennedy Lehman, Sydney Raasch , Emma DeBold, Hannah Bates, and Rosie Wasko performed a 60 second routine designed to highlight their stunting skills. The teams were judged on the difficulty of individual stunts, the quality and variety of transitions, and their overall execution. This group of Centennial cheerleaders earned an almost perfect score. Special thanks to Coach Samantha Sloan (assistant fall varsity cheer coach, head wrestling cheer coach) who started the groups’ participation in this division in 2015 and, over the past four years, coached these girls to Ankeny Centennial’s first state cheerleading championship.
Time Out Places 3rd at State:
The Centennial cheerleaders competed at the State Cheerleading Championships and brought home a 3rd place finish in the 4A Time Out division. These cheerleaders had 60 seconds (the length of a full timeout during a basketball game) to demonstrate their ability to do what cheerleaders do best: fire up a crowd. They were judged against 9 other schools from around the state on their energy, jumps, tumbling, use of signs and other props, and crowd involvement. Coaches Alyssa Howlett (cheer program head, head fall varsity, head winter varsity) and Kaylee Brugioni (head fall freshmen, head basketball freshmen) introduced Centennial cheerleaders to this relatively new category last year, were they coached them to a 5th place finish.
