ACHS/Northview Show Choirs Take Home Honors

ANKENY, Iowa (January 27, 2016) - Ankeny Centennial High School's show choirs are hitting the right notes this season.  On January 9, the vocalists traveled to Linn-Mar to compete for the first time at Supernova.  Rhythmic Momentum won first in the women's division; Eternal Rush won Grand Champion in the prep division, including best vocals and best choreography; Spectrum won Grand Champion and best choreography out of six competing varsity show choirs.  Also competing at Supernova in the prep division, Project X, ACHS' new show choir.
 
On January 23, the choirs competed against 22 groups at Johnston High School’s Showzam.  Rhythmic Momentum won Grand Champion of the women's division and was awarded best vocals, best choreography, and best band.  Eternal Rush won Grand Champion of the prep division and was awarded best choreography and best band.  Varsity choir Spectrum placed first overall in the daytime competition and Grace Herzberg was awarded best female soloist.  Spectrum then performed in the finals and won Grand Champion,  best vocals, best choreography, and best band.  Project X placed fifth overall in the prep division competition.
 
“This year has been off to a great start and we could not have had so much success without the tireless efforts of our parent volunteers and the 250 plus students involved in our program," said Lester Ray Miller III, ACHS Director of Choral Activities.  "Our students have been challenged on and off the stage and have risen to meet these challenges every step of the way. We are so proud of all of them!”   
 
The ACHS show choirs are directed by Lester Ray Miller III, Lisa Evans, and Nolan Henkle.
 
On February 13, the show choirs will compete at Urbandale High School and conclude their competition season in Hastings, Minnesota on February 27.  The choirs will also host the Spring Show Spectacular on March 4-6.
