Quality Schools: One Reason Why Ankeny is Tops

ANKENY, Iowa (August 9, 2016) - Ankeny has been named the third best small city for families in the midwest and 11th in the nation by NerdWallet, a consumer financial advocacy website.  NerdWallet analyzed data from 245 places in the U.S. with populations from 25,000 to 100,000.  They looked at the following factors: 
  • quality schools
  • home value and affordability
  • median annual income
  • prosperity and growth
  • crime rate

NerdWallet measured each school's academic performance with ratings from GreatSchools, a non-profit organization that compares schools based on test scores and other available data, including student academic growth, and college readiness.

"Ankeny has a very high-performing school district," said NerdWallet analyst Mike Anderson.  "The high school graduation rate is 93.5 percent, nearly three points higher than the state average at 90.8 percent."
Rounding out the top five best small cities in the midwest for families:
  1. Carmel, Indiana
  2. Wildwood, Missouri
  3. Ankeny, Iowa
  4. Woodbury, Minnesota
  5. Dublin, Ohio
