Congratulations to the Ankeny High School Marching Hawks for
taking top honors at the Five Seasons Invitational in Cedar Rapids. AHS was
awarded first place, Best Colorguard, Winds, and Drum Majors. Earlier in the day, the band received second place at Bands Across the Prairie also in Cedar Rapids.
“We are very excited and happy about the way the kids rose to the occasion,” said Joel Poppen, Director of Bands. "They made the necessary changes and it paid off."
Ankeny High School Marching Hawks consists of about 180 students in
grades 9-12 and is directed by Joel Poppen, Jennifer Williams, Nathan Newhard, christian Baughman Pam Hayden, and assisted by choreographer Darrin Mell.
show is entitled “Spellbound: A Witch's Tale,” featuring the songs Hocus Pocus, I Put a Spell On You, Every Little Thing She Does is Magic, and Dies Irae.
AHS' next competition is the Valleyfest Showdown in West Des Moines, on October 8. They will perform at 8:15pm.
