the winter clothing drive.
ANKENY, Iowa (November 23, 2016) - The Ankeny school community generously donated items of winter clothing to help students in need during the third annual F.E.W.D. winter clothing drive.  More than 245 students have already received coats, hats, mittens and other winter wear, with more expected to be helped throughout winter.  F.E.W.D, which stands for “Faith and Education Winter Donations,” distributed the clothing November 12-14 and is supported by Project Fresh Start through the Ankeny Community Education Department.  During their drive, Ankeny students, staff, and parents collected winter clothing at their 16 schools to contribute to the project.
"I would like to extend my sincere thanks to the students, staff, and principals in our buildings who participated, as well as those from our community churches and businesses who provided their support to our students," said Superintendent Dr. Bruce A. Kimpston.  "It clearly demonstrates one of our district strategic plan's core values: community."

Warm clothing will be available for Ankeny school nurses to provide students on an as-needed basis throughout the year.  Project Fresh Start also donated items to TAKE at 406 SW School Street to be available to residents in need.  Remaining items will be stored and serve as a foundation for next year's Project F.E.W.D. winter clothing drive.
