ANKENY, Iowa (July 20, 2017) - The Ankeny Centennial Trap Team won a total of eight squad awards including first place national championships in three events at the Scholastic Clay Target Program (SCTP) National Championships in Marengo, Ohio. The Jaguars also had seven athletes earn individual medals including three first place titles. Over the duration of the meet, the Jags secured a total of 70 perfect 25-round scores.
"The secret to our success at nationals was the unselfish 'team first' approach the athletes displayed," said Jody Martin, Trap Team head coach. "If you think as a team, you not only win as a team but the individual medals will be there also. I could not be more proud of the performances this young group of athletes displayed at the biggest meet of the year."
Mr. Martin also added that the excellent support from his assistant coaches, parents, grandparents, the Ankeny Izaak Walton League (where the team practices), and Ankeny Centennial has been an important part of the team's success.
"It takes a village to pull something like this off and I have one of the best villages in the nation," said Martin.
